Freedom really?

God, will always let you do things your way for a while, waiting for you to come to your senses, turn to Him, and be set free! John 8:31-32

We do have freedom of choice. Yet is it truly freedom, or do our choices most times hold us captive? It's something to think about. When going through life making some choices we do and feeling stuck! We, at times feel like we are getting handed a bill of goods, life is going wrong in our businesses, our relationships, etc..

Sometimes, what we think sets us free is exactly what holds us captive, even to the point of feeling no way out. We feel strangled and begin the journey of questioning everything and not being able to choose at all. We have become slaves to what we thought was the best for us, now wondering when we will ever be set free.

Sin will do just that, it creeps in and the next thing you know we are being held captive, and yes this happens to Christians! We are in no way excluded from making mistakes or wrong decisions, the problem we run into is humility. The willingness to go to God and say I am wrong deliver me from this choice and set me free again!

Jesus, talking to some Jewish folks who believed in Him, did not get this concept, they were stuck in their legalism. They could not see that the choices they were making were sin and holding them hostage, even to the point when truth was right in front of them they could not see it. They could not see the slavery Jesus was talking about was spiritual, it was a sin problem and He was showing them a way out.

Yet denial, one of the greatest deceivers, had rooted in and they got hung up!

In John 8:31-36, So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed in Him, "If you abide in My word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth and the truth will set you free."

Listen to their answer and see if this has not been you at times?

33- They answered Him, "We are the offspring of Abraham and have never been enslaved to anyone. How is it that You say, 'You will become free?"

Jesus response; 34-36, Jesus answered them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who commits sin is a slave to sin. The slave does not remain in the house forever; the Son remains forever. So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.

Jesus was simply saying to them and to us, at times, we choose to do things that cause us grief. That is sin, and it causes us to be held captive, with loss of the freedom we truly seek. Jesus reminded them, and us, where freedom truly come from, Himself and His word. Instead of us, using our freedoms to put us into captivity, we need to use that freedom to be set free.

If you are a Christian who is struggling, get back into the word and prayer, seek His face again, come before the throne of grace and find that mercy and that grace to help us in time of need. Hebrews 4:16

If you do not know Jesus as Lord and Savior come to Him today, before it is forever to late! Pray and ask Him by faith to come into your life, to forgive you, believe that He died for your sins, died on the cross for you, was buried and on the third day rose from the dead, all for you! Believe by faith, confess with your mouth believe in you heart He did all this for you, and you will be set free! Romans 3:10, Romans 5:8-9, Romans 10:9-13
